Palace in Gorzanów
Gorzanów, Poland, Poland
The Palace in Gorzanów, located in the village of Gorzanów in southwestern Poland's Lower Silesia region, originated as a Renaissance structure built after 1554 or 1570 by Heinrich von Ratschin, replacing a 15th-century manor and featuring four wings around an inner courtyard with sgraffito-decorated façades, profiled windows, and a prominent tower. Expanded around 1620 and redesigned in Early Baroque style between 1653-1672 under Johann Friedrich von Herberstein by Italian architects like Andrea Carove, it gained lavish interiors including a sala terrena, St. George chapel, ballroom with stucco ceilings, trompe l’œil paintings, loggias, terraces, and double external stairs leading to a Baroque portal. Further altered in the 18th and early 20th centuries with neo-Renaissance gables and restorations, the privately owned palace retains its Renaissance core amid a historic garden and pavilion, though post-WWII neglect impacted its condition.
