Pfalzgrafenschloss Neumarkt

Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz, Germany, Germany

Pfalzgrafenschloss Neumarkt, also known as the Neumarkt Residence, is a historic palace in Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz, Bavaria.

The current building was constructed in the mid-16th century by Count Palatine Friedrich II on the site of several earlier castles, reflecting the town’s former role as a residence of the Palatine rulers. The palace was once the political center of the region, but its importance declined after Friedrich II moved his seat of government elsewhere.

Over the centuries, the building served various purposes, including as a residence, a tobacco factory, and later a courthouse. Today, the palace remains one of Neumarkt’s most important landmarks and forms the heart of the city’s historic castle quarter alongside the Hofkirche and Reitstadel. It houses the local district court, while its historic halls and courtyard are used for cultural events and performances.
