Pico do Fogo is an active stratovolcano on Fogo Island in Cabo Verde, rising to 2,829 meters, making it the highest point in the Cape Verde archipelago. The volcano has a large summit caldera with steep walls and a central cone that last erupted in 2014-2015, following eruptions in 1995 and previous centuries.

Historical eruptions, including a major one in 1680, have shaped the island’s landscape and caused temporary evacuations of villages like Chã das Caldeiras located inside the caldera. The island’s fertile volcanic soil supports coffee growing and vineyards. Pico do Fogo is both a powerful natural landmark and a key part of local life, attracting hikers and nature enthusiasts who explore its dramatic terrain and unique volcanic environment.
