Pua Mau Place
Hawaii, United States
Pua Mau Place Arboretum and Botanical Garden in Hawaii was established in 1974 by Dr. Virgil Place and friends with a focus on ever-blooming woody plants suited for Hawaii's arid environment.
Located on the dry western slopes of the Kohala Mountain Range, the 45-acre garden combines botanical research with public education about native and adapted plants used for ornamental, agricultural, and ecological purposes. It features a variety of native plants, tropical trees, a large aviary with peacocks, and striking bronze sculptures of animals and insects that add artistic interest throughout the garden.
Pua Mau Place is notable for its sustainable irrigation using brackish water and its setting offers expansive views of the ocean. Though more rustic and less commercialized than other gardens, it remains a unique destination for visitors seeking botanical diversity and Hawaiian cultural connection.
