Purgatory Resort is a mid‑sized ski and mountain resort in the San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado, about 25 miles north of Durango, United States.
Founded in 1965, it offers roughly 1,600 skiable acres, more than 100 named trails, five terrain parks, and 11 lifts, with terrain suited for beginners, intermediates, and advanced skiers, and it is often ranked as one of the best‑value, family‑friendly, and less‑crowded ski areas in North America.
The resort is known for its combination of wide‑open cruisers, steep tree‑skiing runs, and a lodge‑style village base with rental shops, restaurants, and condos, plus a small urgent‑care clinic on‑site, and it also operates year‑round with activities such as hiking, mountain biking, tubing, and an alpine slide in the summer and shoulder seasons.
