Radziki Duże
Poland, Poland
Radziki Duże is a small village in north-central Poland's Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, in Golub-Dobrzyń County, located near the Drwęca River close to the historic Polish-Teutonic borderlands midway between Golub and Brodnica.
The village is renowned for its castle ruins, likely built in the late 14th century (around 1380-1384) by Andrzej Ogończyk, castellan of Dobrzyń, for the Radzikowski family (formerly Ogończyks), featuring a square brick layout about 28.8 meters per side with defensive walls and a residential wing.
Destroyed by Teutonic Knights in 1457 during the Thirteen Years' War, rebuilt and Renaissance-modernized around 1510 by Mikołaj Radzikowski, it passed through noble families like Pleckis, Kuczyńskis, and Rolicz-Tarnowskis before Swedish invasion damage in the mid-17th century led to abandonment and ruin by the 19th century.
