Ruine Geyersburg
Untermünkheim, Germany, Germany
Ruine Geyersburg is the remains of a medieval hilltop castle located near Untermünkheim in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
Built in 1391 by the influential Feldner family of Schwäbisch Hall, the castle occupied a strategic position on a narrow ridge overlooking the Kocher Valley and later passed through the hands of several local noble and patrician families. The castle gradually lost its importance after the early 16th century. During the German Peasants’ War of the 1520s.
It served as a refuge for groups of insurgents, and at some point afterward it fell into ruin, although the exact cause of its decline is unknown. Today, visitors can still see parts of the residential tower, sections of the ring wall, and other defensive features. The ruins were stabilized and restored in 1982 and are freely accessible, offering both a glimpse into late medieval history and impressive views over the surrounding landscape.
