Ruine Günzelburg
Blaubeuren, Germany, Germany
Ruine Günzelburg is the remains of a small medieval hilltop castle perched on a rocky spur about 685 meters above sea level above the village of Weiler, a district of Seißen in Blaubeuren, Baden‑Württemberg, Germany.
The fortress was built in the late 13th or early 14th century by the noble family of Berkach and later passed through several owners before being mentioned as already in poor condition by the late 15th century. Today only fragments of the original walls and the outline of the former keep and shield‑wall remain, with most of the structure having fallen into ruin and partially collapsed down the steep rock face.
The site is now a quiet, wooded landmark that offers a panoramic view into the Achtal valley and is often reached via short hikes from Blaubeuren or nearby Weiler rather than as a major guided tourist destination.
