Ruine Heriboldesburg
Neudenau, Germany, Germany
Ruine Heriboldesburg is the remains of a medieval hilltop castle overlooking the Jagst Valley in Herbolzheim, a district of Neudenau in Baden-Württemberg.
The castle likely originated in the 12th or 13th century and served as the seat of the Knights of Herbolzheim, a local noble family first mentioned in historical records in 1268. Over time, the castle passed to larger territorial powers, including the Bishopric of Worms and later the Electorate of Mainz. Its exact destruction date is unknown, but it had probably fallen into ruin by the late 15th century, and some of its stones were later reused in local construction projects.
Today, the most prominent feature is its restored round keep, which rises about 25 to 30 meters above the site. Along with a few remaining walls and earthworks, the tower offers a glimpse into the region’s medieval past and remains a notable landmark above Neudenau.
