Ruine Hirschstein

Martinlamitzer Forst-Nord, Germany, Germany

Ruine Hirschstein is the remains of a medieval hilltop castle located on the Großer Kornberg in the Fichtel Mountains of Bavaria, Germany.

The castle is documented as early as 1223 and was associated with the noble Hirschberg family during the 13th and 14th centuries. Perched at an elevation of about 744 meters, the fortress was built on a rocky outcrop and offered excellent defensive views over the surrounding landscape.

It was destroyed around the middle of the 14th century and, although permission to rebuild it was later granted, the castle was never reconstructed and gradually became a ruin. Today, visitors can see sections of the surviving stone walls and foundations while enjoying scenic views of the Fichtel Mountains. The site is a popular hiking destination and an important historical monument that preserves a glimpse of the region’s medieval past.
