Ruine Honberg
Tuttlingen, Germany, Germany
Ruine Honberg is a striking 15th-century fortress ruin perched at 739 meters atop Honberg hill overlooking Tuttlingen and the Upper Danube Valley in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Built between 1460-1470 by Count Eberhard V "the Bearded" of Württemberg as a strategic border defense and ducal stronghold, it endured the Thirty Years' War until commander Konrad Widerholt ordered its 1645 destruction to thwart enemies, with the inscription still visible on a tower. Late 19th-century restoration by the Tuttlingen Beautification Association preserved its two iconic crenellated towers amid remnants of walls and ramparts, now a city symbol accessible via easy trails with panoramic views, picnic spots, and barbecue areas.
