Ruine Schloss Hausen im Tal
Beuron, Germany, Germany
Ruine Schloss Hausen im Tal, often called Ruine Hausen, is a medieval hill‑castle ruin above the village of Hausen im Tal, an Ortsteil of Beuron in the Sigmaringen district of Baden‑Württemberg.
It sits on a rocky outcrop nearly 200 meters above the Danube, forming a striking silhouette that dominates the landscape of the Naturpark Obere Donau. The site began as a high‑medieval spur castle in the 11th century, grew over several building phases, and served as the seat of the local lords of Hausen before falling into decline and partial demolition from the 19th century onward.
Today only fragments remain, most notably a well‑preserved gable wall that was stabilised in 2007 and later honored as a “Denkmal des Monats,” with the grounds privately owned by the noble house of Douglas and freely accessible to hikers via trails in the Upper Danube valley.
