Ruine Schloss Justingen
Schelklingen, Germany, Germany
Ruine Schloss Justingen, also known as Hohenjustingen, overlooks Hütten near Schelklingen, Germany, on a rocky spur at the southern edge of the Swabian Alb.
Originally the ancestral seat of the noble Justingen family since the early 13th century, the medieval castle was destroyed in 1236 by the Bishop of Constance and rebuilt as a Renaissance palace around 1567 by Michael-Ludwig von Freyberg-Justingen.
Sold and demolished in 1834 after falling into disrepair, its sparse remnants today include restored vaulted cellars, enclosure walls, a chapel, and a prison vault, protected as a cultural monument with on-site info panels for hikers exploring the scenic Schmiechtal valley.
