Ruine Speckfeld is the remains of a medieval hilltop castle located on the wooded Schlossberg near Markt Einersheim in Bavaria's Kitzingen district. The castle was probably built around 1200 by the Lords of Speckfeld and later belonged to several noble families, including the Lords of Hohenlohe and the Schenks of Limpurg. Over the centuries, the fortress was damaged and rebuilt multiple times. It was destroyed during the German Peasants’ War in 1525, rebuilt afterward, and later suffered further destruction from fire and wartime conflicts. After the local rulers moved to a new residence in Einersheim in the late 17th century, the castle was abandoned and gradually fell into ruin. Today, visitors can explore the surviving walls, tower remains, and earthworks while enjoying views of the surrounding Franconian countryside. The site is valued as both a historical monument and a scenic destination for hikers interested in the region’s medieval heritage.
