Ruine Willenburg (Schlössle)
Schiltach, Germany, Germany
Ruine Willenburg, also known locally as Schlossle, is the remains of a small high‑medieval hilltop castle perched about 656 meters above sea level roughly two kilometers east of the town of Schiltach in the Black Forest region of Baden‑Württemberg, Germany.
Built around 1100, likely by the Dukes of Teck or the House of Zähringen, it served to monitor the old pass road toward Rottweil and to collect tolls from travelers before being effectively replaced in that role by the town and castle of Schiltach around 1250.
Today the site is largely collapsed and overgrown, with only scattered wall fragments, ramparts, and a remarkably deep 30.3‑meter castle well still visible, making it a quiet, forested Burgstall that hikers reach via somewhat steep and narrow paths rather than a compact, easily legible ruin.
