The Saint Peter and Paul Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral-Basilica of Saint Peter and Paul, is one of the most famous landmarks in Paramaribo, Suriname.

Built primarily from local wood and consecrated in 1885, it is widely regarded as one of the largest wooden churches in the Western Hemisphere and is a remarkable example of Gothic-inspired architecture adapted to a tropical setting. The cathedral is known for its impressive twin towers, beautifully carved cedar interior, high vaulted ceilings, and peaceful atmosphere.

After extensive restoration work, it reopened in 2010 and was elevated to the status of a minor basilica by Pope Francis in 2014. Located in the historic center of Paramaribo, the cathedral is both an active place of worship and a major cultural attraction, reflecting Suriname’s rich religious heritage, skilled craftsmanship, and unique architectural history.
