Salgói Vár, or Salgó Castle, is a medieval hilltop fortress located near Salgótarján in northern Hungary.

Built in the 13th century after the Mongol invasions, it began as a stone tower constructed by the Kacsics family and was later expanded into a larger fortress because of its strategic position on a volcanic peak. Over the centuries, the castle was involved in major regional conflicts. It was occupied by Hussite forces in the 15th century, later recaptured by King Matthias, and eventually fell to the Ottoman Turks during the 16th century.

Historical legends tell that the castle was surrendered after defenders were deceived into believing the attackers possessed enormous cannons. Although the fortress later fell into ruin, substantial remains still stand atop the 625‑meter-high volcanic hill. The site is renowned for its dramatic setting, historical significance, and panoramic views of the surrounding forests, hills, and nearby Slovak border region.

Today, Salgói Vár is a popular destination for hikers, photographers, and history enthusiasts, offering a combination of medieval heritage and some of the most impressive scenery in northern Hungary.
