Sanguthurai Beach

Sanguthurai Beach is a clean, palm-fringed sandy beach in Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu, located about 8–10 km from Nagercoil and 10–15 km from Kanyakumari town, making it one of the region’s least crowded and most peaceful coastal spots.

Its name comes from “Sangu,” meaning conch in Tamil, and the beach is famous for a large white pillar with a black conch sculpture built during the Chola period, which serves as a unique landmark and draws history enthusiasts. From the shore you can clearly see the iconic Vivekananda Rock Memorial and Thiruvalluvar Statue in the distance, and the beach also offers beautiful backwater views alongside golden sands and calm, warm waters that are inviting for swimming and relaxing.

The beach is open 24 hours with no entry fee and features a kids’ play area, a sea tower for panoramic views, water sports including parasailing, as well as small shops and cottages for visitors. It’s particularly popular for sunrise and sunset views, and while it’s relatively quiet and less developed, the best time to visit is from November to March when the weather is cool and pleasant.
