Schloß Dürrwangen is a historic former moated castle located on the eastern edge of Dürrwangen in Bavaria. Its origins date back to the 13th century, with the castle first mentioned in records in 1257. Over the centuries, it was owned by several noble families, including the Counts of Oettingen, and served as an important administrative center for the region. The castle suffered damage during the German Peasants’ War in 1525 but was later rebuilt. Much of the present complex was constructed between 1720 and 1724 in the Baroque style, while a medieval round tower, sections of the defensive walls, and the remains of the moat still preserve elements of the original fortress. Today, Schloß Dürrwangen remains one of the town’s most important historical landmarks. Its blend of medieval and Baroque architecture reflects centuries of Franconian history and provides a visible link to the area’s noble past.
