Schloß Karlstein
Regenstauf, Germany, Germany
Schloß Karlstein is a historic castle located in the village of Karlstein, part of Regenstauf in Bavaria, Germany.
It stands on the site of an earlier medieval fortress, with records of the estate dating back to the 14th century. The property was owned by several noble families over the centuries, including the Lords of Leuchtenberg and later the Counts von Drechsel. The castle was plundered during the Thirty Years’ War in 1632 but survived and continued to develop under later owners.
Around the beginning of the 20th century, it was extensively remodeled and expanded in the Neo-Gothic style, giving it much of its present appearance. The complex also includes a chapel and is surrounded by landscaped grounds. Today, Schloß Karlstein remains privately owned and is recognized as an important architectural and historical landmark in the Regensburg district.
