Schloß ob Ellwangen
Germany, Germany
Schloss ob Ellwangen is a large historic castle overlooking the town of Ellwangen in Baden-Württemberg.
Originally built around 1200 as a fortified castle for the abbots of Ellwangen Abbey, it later became the residence of the powerful Prince-Provosts who governed the region. The complex was transformed into an impressive Renaissance palace between 1603 and 1608, featuring a striking arcaded courtyard and four corner towers.
After a major fire in 1720, it was rebuilt in the Baroque style, adding elegant interiors, a grand staircase, and a magnificent throne room. Today, Schloss ob Ellwangen is one of the town’s most recognizable landmarks. It houses a museum, hosts cultural events and concerts, and offers visitors panoramic views of Ellwangen and the surrounding Jagst Valley while showcasing centuries of regional history.
