Schloß Schönbrunn

Denkendorf, Germany, Germany

Schloß Schönbrunn is a historic castle in the village of Schönbrunn near Denkendorf in Bavaria.

Originally known as Prunn, the site traces its history back to a medieval moated castle first mentioned in the early 14th century and later developed into the center of a local estate known as a Hofmark. The property changed hands many times over the centuries and suffered damage during the Thirty Years’ War.

In the early 18th century, it was rebuilt in its present Baroque form as a three-story residence with a distinctive hipped roof, chapel, gardens, and associated farm buildings. Schloss Schönbrunn also served as a hunting residence for Eugène de Beauharnais, Duke of Leuchtenberg and Prince of Eichstätt, in the 19th century. Today, the castle remains privately owned and is valued for its well-preserved architecture, historic park, and its role in the cultural heritage of the Altmühl region.
