Schloß zu Lohr am Main
Lohr am Main, Germany, Germany
Schloß zu Lohr am Main, also known as Lohrer Schloss or the Kurmainzer Schloss, is a historic castle in the heart of Lohr am Main, Bavaria. Originally founded around 1340 by the Counts of Rieneck, it was later taken over by the Prince-Electors of Mainz, who expanded and remodeled it into the impressive four-towered complex seen today. For centuries, the castle served as an administrative and noble residence. Today it houses the Spessart Museum, which showcases the history, culture, forests, and craftsmanship of the Spessart region. The castle is also famous for its connection to the Snow White legend. Local tradition links it to Maria Sophia von Erthal, who was born there in 1725 and is often considered a possible inspiration for the fairy tale. This unique blend of history, architecture, and folklore makes the castle one of Lohr am Main’s most popular landmarks.
