Schloss Alerheim
Alerheim, Germany, Germany
Schloss Alerheim is a historic castle and palace complex located on a hill overlooking Alerheim in Bavaria, Germany. Its origins date back to the Middle Ages, and the site was once an important fortified stronghold within the Holy Roman Empire. Historical records show that it changed hands several times and was associated with noble families, regional rulers, and even Emperor Frederick II, who briefly held his son Henry VII there in 1235. The medieval castle was later expanded into a residence, but it suffered severe damage during the Thirty Years' War in 1634 and subsequently fell into ruin. Parts of the original fortifications, including sections of the gatehouse, walls, and moat, still survive. Today, Schloss Alerheim combines historic ruins with carefully restored and newer buildings. The privately owned site is known for preserving the area's rich heritage and includes facilities connected to regional food, brewing, and distilling traditions, making it a distinctive landmark in the Donau-Ries region.
