Schloss Allmendingen
Allmendingen bei Bern, Switzerland, Germany
Schloss Allmendingen is a Renaissance country estate from the early 17th century located in the village of Allmendingen, just outside Bern in the Swiss canton of Bern, not in Germany.
It was built in 1607 as a late‑Gothic Renaissance manor by Kaspar von Graffenried and later expanded in the 18th century into a classical “Campagne”‑style palace with symmetrical wings forming an introverted courtyard and a surrounding park. The building is notable for its distinctive external octagonal staircase tower and is listed in Switzerland’s inventory of cultural assets of national importance.
Today Schloss Allmendingen remains in private hands and is not regularly open to the public, although it is occasionally associated with local events and is known in part for having hosted British Prime Minister Winston Churchill during a visit in 1946.
