Schloss Alte Kemenate Nagel
Küps, Germany, Germany
Schloss Alte Kemenate Nagel is a historic former noble residence located in the village of Nagel, part of Küps in Upper Franconia, Bavaria.
Its origins date back to at least 1419, when a fortified manor and residence stood on the site, serving to protect important transportation routes along the Rodach Valley. Over the centuries, the estate passed through the hands of several noble families, including the von Redwitz and von Künsberg families.
In the 17th century, the complex was expanded into a castle-like moated residence, but parts of the larger ensemble were later demolished in the 19th century, leaving the preserved “Alte Kemenate” as its main historic building. Today, the castle is a charming historic landmark surrounded by parkland and old trees, including the famous ancient oak of Nagel.
