Schloss Babenhausen is a historic castle in the town of Babenhausen in Hesse, Germany, with origins dating back to around 1200.

Originally built as a medieval moated fortress, it served as both a defensive stronghold and the administrative center for the surrounding region. Over the centuries, it became the residence of the Lords of Hagen-Münzenberg, the Counts of Hanau, and later the Counts of Hanau-Lichtenberg. The castle played an important role in regional history and witnessed major events such as the Thirty Years’ War, during which it was occupied and plundered by various armies.

After the Hanau family line ended in the 18th century, the property passed to the House of Hesse and continued to serve as a noble residence and administrative center. Today, Schloss Babenhausen is valued as one of the town’s most significant historic landmarks. Its mix of medieval origins and later architectural additions reflects centuries of political, military, and aristocratic history in the region.
