Schloss Bissingen
Bissingen, Germany, Germany
Schloss Bissingen is a historic castle in the market town of Bissingen in Bavaria, Germany. Its origins date back to the 12th century, but the present castle was largely built in the late 1550s by the military commander Sebastian Schertlin von Burtenbach. The impressive three-story building is known for its corner towers and its prominent position overlooking the Kesseltal valley. Over the centuries, the castle belonged to several noble families, including the Counts of Oettingen, and served as an administrative center, court, and residence for aristocratic widows. It later housed forestry offices and other local institutions before passing into private ownership. Today, Schloss Bissingen remains privately owned and has undergone careful restoration. Although generally only viewable from the outside, it is regarded as one of the architectural highlights of the region and is increasingly known for hosting cultural events that bring new life to this historic landmark.
