Schloss Burgtreswitz

Moosbach, Germany, Germany

---

Schloss Burgtreswitz is a historic castle complex located in the village of Burgtreswitz, part of Moosbach in Bavaria, Germany.

Its origins date back to the early 12th century, when it was likely founded by the Counts of Sulzbach, and it later became an important administrative and judicial center under the Wittelsbach rulers. The castle was heavily damaged during the Thirty Years’ War in 1634 but was gradually rebuilt over the following decades, transforming from a medieval fortress into a castle-like residence.

Over time, it also served various purposes, including as a government office, agricultural estate, inn, and brewery. Today, Schloss Burgtreswitz is owned by the municipality of Moosbach and has been extensively restored. It functions as a cultural and historical center, housing exhibitions and museums while hosting concerts, theatrical performances, and community events, making it an important heritage landmark in the Upper Palatinate region.
