Schloss Erlangen
Germany, Germany
Schloss Erlangen is a historic Baroque palace in the center of Erlangen, Bavaria, built between 1700 and 1704 for the Margraves of Brandenburg-Bayreuth.
Together with the adjacent palace garden, orangery, and Concordia Church, it formed the first fully planned Baroque court complex in Franconia. Originally used as a princely residence and later as a residence for widowed margravines, the palace became an important social and cultural center during the 18th century.
A major fire in 1814 destroyed most of the building, and it was rebuilt between 1821 and 1825 with a simpler design. Today, Schloss Erlangen serves as the administrative headquarters of Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg. Its elegant façade, historic setting, and connection to the city’s Baroque heritage make it one of Erlangen’s most notable landmarks.
