Schloss Falkenhausen is a Baroque palace located in Wald, a district of Gunzenhausen in Bavaria, Germany. The castle was built around 1730 on the site of an older medieval fortress known as Wald Castle, which had a long and sometimes turbulent history involving regional noble families and changing ownership over the centuries. The original medieval castle was destroyed in 1375 after being linked to the activities of robber knights. The site later passed through several noble families before being redeveloped into the elegant Baroque residence that stands today. The palace is characterized by its simple yet refined design, including a two-story main building and landscaped grounds. Today, Schloss Falkenhausen remains an important historic landmark in the Gunzenhausen area. Its architecture and history reflect the transition from a medieval defensive stronghold to a noble country residence, making it a notable part of the region’s cultural heritage.
