Schloss Gemmingen
Gemmingen, Germany, Germany
Schloss Gemmingen, also known as the Unterschloss, is a historic manor house in the town of Gemmingen, Baden-Württemberg, and has been owned by the noble von Gemmingen family for centuries.
Originally built as a moated castle in the 13th century, it is the last surviving one of three medieval castles that once stood in the village. The castle was extensively remodeled in the Renaissance style in 1592 by Wolf Dietrich von Gemmingen. Distinctive features from this period include its ornate sandstone entrance portal, decorative bay window, Hexenturm (Witch Tower), and the nearby Hungerturm, one of the oldest surviving parts of the complex.
Today, Schloss Gemmingen is regarded as the most important historic building in the municipality. Standing beside a landscaped park, it reflects the long history and influence of the von Gemmingen family and remains a significant architectural landmark in the Kraichgau region.
