Schloss Grötschenreuth

Erbendorf, Germany, Germany

---

Schloss Grötschenreuth is a historic manor castle located in the village of Grötschenreuth, a district of Erbendorf in Bavaria’s Upper Palatinate region.

It was built in 1611 by Egid Steinhauser on a hill overlooking the Fichtelnaab River after he replaced the nearby, deteriorating Burg Frauenberg as his residence. The castle remained associated with noble families for centuries, particularly the von Weickmann family from the mid-17th century into the 19th century.

Over time, the building was modified with additions such as a portal tower in the 19th century and decorative corner towers in the 1920s, giving it much of its present appearance. Today, Schloss Grötschenreuth is a protected historic monument and an important landmark of the village. Perched on a granite outcrop, it remains privately owned and is not open to the public, but its distinctive architecture continues to shape the character of Grötschenreuth.
