Schloss Habelsee
Ohrenbach, Germany, Germany
Schloss Habelsee is a historic castle in the village of Habelsee, part of Ohrenbach in Bavaria. It originated as a medieval moated castle associated with the Knights of Habelsheim and was first documented in the 14th century. The site changed hands several times over the centuries and was damaged during regional conflicts before being rebuilt. The present castle was largely constructed in 1651–1652 by Johann Schaff von Habelsee, replacing the earlier fortified structure with a more comfortable residence. Its distinctive design includes a three-story main building, partial timber framing, and an elegant polygonal stair tower. Since the 19th century, the estate has primarily been used as a farm property, and in the late 20th century it underwent careful restoration. Today, Schloss Habelsee remains a privately owned landmark that reflects the rich noble and rural history of the Franconian region.
