Schloss Haunsheim
Haunsheim, Germany, Germany
Schloss Haunsheim is a historic castle in Haunsheim, Bavaria, Germany, originally built on the site of a medieval fortress established by the Lords of Haunsheim in the 13th century. Between 1601 and 1604, the complex was transformed into a grand four-wing Renaissance castle by Zacharias Geizkofler, an important official of the Holy Roman Empire. A major fire in 1823 destroyed part of the castle, and later renovations reshaped the remaining buildings in the Neo-Gothic style. Today, only the northern and eastern wings of the original complex survive, along with the distinctive twin-towered entrance gate. The castle is surrounded by a landscaped English-style park and remains in the ownership of the von Hauch family. Although only partly open to visitors, Schloss Haunsheim is one of the most impressive historic residences in the Dillingen region and is also known for hosting cultural events and concerts.
