Schloss Hexenagger

Altmannstein, Germany, Germany

---

Schloss Hexenagger is a historic castle in the village of Hexenagger near Altmannstein in Bavaria, Germany.

Its origins date back to at least the 10th century, with the site first documented in 982. The castle stands on a rocky spur above the Schambach Valley and developed from a medieval fortress into the impressive residence seen today. The original castle was damaged during the Thirty Years’ War and later rebuilt in a Baroque style.

While much of the complex reflects later architectural changes, parts of the medieval fortifications, including the remains of the old keep, still survive. Today, Schloss Hexenagger remains privately owned and is one of the most distinctive landmarks in the Altmühl Valley region. Surrounded by walls and towers, it is known for its historic character, castle chapels, and cultural events that help preserve its long heritage.
