Verified Schloss Marktoberdorf

Marktoberdorf, Germany, Germany

Schloss Marktoberdorf is a former prince-bishop’s palace located in Marktoberdorf, Bavaria, Germany.

It served as a hunting lodge and summer residence for the Prince-Bishops of Augsburg and stands as one of the town’s most important Baroque landmarks. The site has a long history, with earlier castle buildings dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries. The current Baroque palace was constructed in the 1720s under Prince-Bishop Alexander Sigismund and designed by architect Johann Georg Fischer.

After secularization in the early 19th century, the palace was used for various administrative and educational purposes. Since 1984, it has been home to the Bavarian Music Academy, and its grounds include the famous Kurfürstenallee, a historic avenue lined with hundreds of lime trees.
