Schloss Maxlrain

Tuntenhausen, Germany, Germany

---

Schloss Maxlrain is a historic Renaissance castle in the village of Maxlrain near Tuntenhausen in Upper Bavaria.

Its origins date back to the early Middle Ages, with the site first documented in the 9th century. After an earlier fortress was destroyed by fire in 1577, the present castle was rebuilt between 1582 and 1585, incorporating older structures and giving it the distinctive appearance it retains today.

The castle was the ancestral seat of the Lords of Maxlrain, an influential Bavarian noble family. Over the centuries, it passed through several aristocratic owners and became closely associated with brewing traditions, including the renowned Schlossbrauerei Maxlrain, which continues to operate today. Surrounded by forests, parkland, and views of the Bavarian Alps, Schloss Maxlrain is known for its elegant architecture, onion-domed towers, and richly decorated chapel.
