Schloss Oberndorf is a historic castle in Oberndorf am Lech, Bavaria, closely associated with the influential Fugger family. After acquiring the estate in 1533, Anton Fugger had an impressive Renaissance water castle built between 1535 and 1546, making it an important noble residence in the region. The castle suffered severe damage during the Thirty Years’ War when it was largely destroyed by fire in 1632. In the early 19th century, the remaining structures were rebuilt into the two-winged castle complex that exists today, featuring distinctive round towers and a small chapel adorned with the Fugger coat of arms. Today, Schloss Oberndorf is a privately owned landmark surrounded by a landscaped park and historic tree-lined avenues. While the grounds are generally not open to the public, parts of the castle can be rented for special events, and it remains an important reminder of the Fugger family's legacy in Bavaria.
