Schloss Pyrbaum

Pyrbaum, Germany, Germany

---

Schloss Pyrbaum was originally a medieval castle and the ancestral seat of the Lords of Pyrbaum, with documented history dating back to the 12th century.

In 1493, Wilhelm II of Wolfstein replaced the earlier fortress with an impressive Renaissance-style castle, which became the residence of the powerful Wolfstein family and the center of the local lordship for several centuries. The castle played an important role in the history of the region until the Wolfstein family died out in 1740, after which the territory came under Bavarian control.

In 1853, a devastating fire destroyed the castle, and much of its stone was later reused in nearby buildings. Today, only parts of the former complex remain, including sections of the moat and the foundation of a tower. Although the castle itself has largely disappeared, the site remains an important historical landmark that reflects Pyrbaum’s medieval and early modern heritage.
