Schloss Reichenschwand is a historic castle in the town of Reichenschwand, Bavaria, originally built as a moated fortress around 1300 beside the Pegnitz River by the noble Strahlenfels family. It was first mentioned in records in 1312 and later became an important local seat of power. In 1531, the wealthy merchant Bonaventura von Furtenbach acquired the property, demolished much of the medieval fortress, and replaced it with a Renaissance-style palace. The castle suffered damage during the Thirty Years’ War and other conflicts but was repeatedly restored and redesigned over the centuries, including major neo-Gothic modifications in the 19th century. Today, Schloss Reichenschwand is one of the architectural highlights of the Nürnberger Land region. Privately owned, it serves as a hotel, restaurant, and event venue, while preserving the character and heritage of its medieval and Renaissance origins.
