Schloss Röthenbach
Arzberg, Germany
Schloss Röthenbach in Arzberg, Bavaria, Germany, is a Renaissance castle built between 1559 and 1561 by Jobst Heinrich von Schirnding and his wife Dorothea von Waldenfels.
The castle, originally surrounded by a moat, has a distinctive hook-shaped layout with two two-story wings. Its upper floors feature stone corbel-supported bay windows and ornamental stepped gables added during the Romantic period in the mid-19th century.
The castle remained in the von Schirnding family until 1819 and then passed to the von Waldenfels family through marriage, who still own it today. Though privately owned and not open to the public, Schloss Röthenbach stands as an important historic landmark reflecting the region’s Renaissance architecture and noble lineage, with a well-preserved facade and a rich family history tied to northern Bavaria.
