Schloss Schmölz

Küps, Germany, Germany

---

Schloss Schmölz is a historic castle in the village of Schmölz, part of Küps in Upper Franconia, Bavaria.

Originally built by the noble von Redwitz family in 1502, it was destroyed during the German Peasants’ War in 1525 and rebuilt in 1536, forming the basis of the structure seen today. The castle is a distinctive two-winged complex with corner towers and combines elements from different periods.

In the mid-19th century, the poet Oskar von Redwitz expanded the estate with a new south wing, adding to its architectural character. Over the centuries, the castle passed through several noble and private owners and remains an important landmark of the region. Today, Schloss Schmölz is privately owned and is admired for its historical significance, elegant architecture, and connection to the long aristocratic history of the Küps area.
