Schloss Schwanberg
Rödelsee, Germany, Germany
Schloss Schwanberg is a historic castle situated on the Schwanberg hill above the village of Rödelsee in Bavaria’s Franconian wine region. The site has a long history, with evidence of settlement and fortifications dating back to prehistoric and Celtic times, while the medieval castle itself is documented from around the 13th century. Over the centuries, the castle passed through the hands of several noble families and was twice destroyed, during the German Peasants’ War in 1525 and again in the Thirty Years’ War. Each time it was rebuilt, gradually evolving from a fortress into a stately residence. Today, Schloss Schwanberg is part of the Schwanberg spiritual and conference center and serves as a place for retreats, meetings, and cultural activities. Surrounded by forests, vineyards, and panoramic views of the Steigerwald region, it remains one of the area's most notable historical landmarks.
