Schloss Schwarzenberg
Scheinfeld, Germany, Germany
Schloss Schwarzenberg is a historic castle complex overlooking the town of Scheinfeld in Bavaria and is the ancestral seat of the noble House of Schwarzenberg. Its origins date back to the medieval period, with the castle first mentioned in the 12th and 13th centuries. In the early 15th century, Erkinger von Seinsheim acquired the estate and adopted the name Schwarzenberg, laying the foundation for the influential princely family. The castle was expanded and strengthened over the centuries, successfully withstanding attacks during the German Peasants' War in 1525. After a major fire in 1607, large parts of the residence were rebuilt in the Renaissance style, creating much of the appearance seen today. Today, Schloss Schwarzenberg is one of the most important landmarks in the Steigerwald region. Visitors can explore its historic courtyards and, through guided tours, learn about its impressive architecture, the powerful Schwarzenberg family, and the castle’s role as the center of a small independent principality within the Holy Roman Empire.
