Verified Schloss St. Emmeram, Thurn und Taxis

Regensburg, Germany, Germany

Schloss St. Emmeram, also known as Schloss Thurn und Taxis, is one of Germany’s largest palace complexes and the principal residence of the Thurn und Taxis family in Regensburg.

The site began as the Benedictine Abbey of St. Emmeram, founded around the 8th century, and developed into an important religious and political center of the Holy Roman Empire. After the secularization of church properties in the early 19th century, the former monastery was transferred to the Thurn und Taxis family, who transformed it into a magnificent palace while preserving many historic monastery buildings, cloisters, and halls.

Extensive renovations in the 19th century gave the complex much of its current appearance. Today, the palace remains inhabited by the princely family and is also a major cultural attraction. Visitors can explore its richly furnished state rooms and historic architecture, and the grounds host the renowned Thurn und Taxis Castle Festival, making it one of Regensburg’s most celebrated landmarks.
