Schloss Straßburg
Straßburg, Austria, Germany
Schloss Straßburg is a medieval castle perched at 754 meters above sea level in the town of Straßburg, Carinthia, Austria—not Germany—built starting in 1147 as the residence of the Prince-Bishops of Gurk.
Featuring robust stone walls, Romanesque towers, a central Faulturm residential keep with battlements, and defensive rondels, it controlled trade through the Gurktal valley for centuries until falling into ruin by the 18th century.
Restored in 1955 through community efforts, it now houses a small museum showcasing ethnographic collections like rural furniture, textiles from the 19th-20th centuries, tools, and smoking pipes, plus rotating exhibits and a restaurant on its picturesque inner courtyard.
