Schloss Sünching
Sünching, Germany, Germany
Schloss Sünching is a historic moated castle in Sünching, Bavaria, and is considered one of the finest Rococo country palaces in southern Germany.
The site originated as a medieval castle, but the present residence was built in 1758 for the Counts of Seinsheim by renowned architect François de Cuvilliés the Elder. The castle is especially notable for its rare octagonal design, featuring an irregular eight-sided inner courtyard.
Behind its relatively simple exterior lies an impressive Rococo interior with ornate frescoes, stucco work, and decorations created by some of Bavaria’s most celebrated 18th-century artists. For centuries, Schloss Sünching was the residence of the Seinsheim family, and it later passed through inheritance to the Hoenning O’Carroll family, who still own and inhabit it today.
