Schloss Wassertrüdingen
Wassertrüdingen, Germany, Germany
Schloss Wassertrüdingen, also known as the Markgrafenschloss or “Castle in the Wörnitz Valley,” is a historic former moated castle in the center of Wassertrüdingen, Bavaria. Originally built around the mid-13th century, it was protected by wide moats, earthworks, and strong defensive walls, parts of which still survive today. The castle was closely associated with the Counts of Oettingen and later the Margraves of Ansbach, serving as an important regional residence and administrative center. During the late 17th century, parts of the medieval fortress were rebuilt and redesigned in the Baroque style, giving the complex much of its current appearance. Today, Schloss Wassertrüdingen remains one of the town’s most notable historical landmarks. Visitors can still see features such as the medieval ring wall and Gothic gateway, which reflect centuries of local history and architectural development.
