Schloss Wildenreuther

Erbendorf, Germany, Germany

Schloss Wildenreuth is a historic castle located in the village of Wildenreuth near Erbendorf in Bavaria’s Upper Palatinate region.

Its origins date back to the 11th or 12th century, when it served as the seat of the noble Lords of Wildenreuth. After that family died out, the estate passed to the Barons von Podewils in 1611, who have remained owners of the castle ever since. The present castle largely dates from the rebuilding that followed a major fire in 1851 and was expanded in a Neo-Renaissance style in 1911.

Despite these later modifications, parts of the southeastern round tower still originate from the original medieval fortress, preserving a link to the site’s early history. Today, Schloss Wildenreuth is a prominent landmark surrounded by an extensive park and gardens. Although it is privately owned and generally only viewable from the outside, it remains an important symbol of the region’s aristocratic heritage and is occasionally opened for special events such as the popular “Wildenreuther Wintermärchen.”
